1 Peter - Living Hope

First Peter is one of the strongest New Testament books for shaping an “Outward” people. Written to believers living as “exiles” in a culture that didn’t share their faith, it shows that having an outward focus is not about programs but about presence, witness, and distinctiveness in everyday life.

This series, Living in Hope, naturally complements DBC’s Up–In–Out vision, especially with an Outward emphasis. Peter consistently ties identity (who you are in Christ) to mission (how you live among others).

Along with living hope, Peter emphasises several key themes, including holiness, perseverance in suffering, and faithful witness. Believers are called to live differently from the world around them, not by withdrawing from it but by displaying the character of Christ within it. Throughout the letter, Peter encourages Christians to stand firm in trials, trust God’s purposes, and let their conduct point others to Jesus. In this way, hope becomes something that is not only believed but also seen and shared.
